chapter four; home for the holiday's.

note: this chapter switches back and forth from Steph to Sid.

Steph's POV
''Hey mom,'' I said over the phone, ''I'm just heading to the airport now, I will call you when I arrive''
''Okay, sweety. See you soon''
''Love you mom, by the way, I have a surprise''
''What is it?''
''Mom, it's a surprise'' I laughed.
''Boo, okay well have a safe flight. Love you''
''Love you to, bye'' I hung up the phone and grabbed my bags that I threw into my car. I drove over to Sidney's house. He was waiting outside, I pulled up and saw him smiling as he made his way towards the car. He put his bags into the trunk then pulled me into a hug, pressing his lips gently on mine. We jumped into the car, Sid taking over the driving, and headed to the airport. I didn't know how my family would react to Sid since they were all die hard hockey fans, all I knew was they were going to love him, not for him being a superstar but for who he was. I just hoped I wouldn't see the one person I didn't want to. Nick.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sid's POV
As we arrived at the airport I looked over to Steph. She was so pretty with her blonde hair and her deep brown eyes. ''Ready, babe?'' I said.
''More then ever'' She smiled, excitedly. We grabbed our bags, went through the mess off customs and boarded the plane. I insisted on driving up yesterday but with the snow storms Pittsburgh was having Steph insisted on flying. The flight wasn't long at all. We met her mom and step-dad at the airport, after grabbing our luggage.
''MOM!'' Steph ran over and gave her mom the biggest hug, the continued the hug with he step-dad Joe.
''I'm so glad your home'' Her mom said smiling. Then Steph turned over to me.
''This is Sid, Sid this is my mom, Lisa and my step-dad, Joe''
''It's very nice to meet you both'' I said extended a hand to Joe and taking the hug her mother was offering. They drove us from Toronto to their home in Cobourg. The neighbourhood was really nice and their house was huge! Her step-brothers ran out to greet us.
''Hi guys!'' Steph yelled.
''Hey sis, glad your home'' Her brother Kyle said, giving her a hug.
''This is Sid, Sid this is Kyle and Josh'' Steph said pointing to each of them.
''Sid, as in Sidney Crosby?''
''Yeah'' I laughed. Both their faces light up, I remember looking up to hockey players when I was little and now I loved seeing kid's faces light up when they meet a hockey player. Her whole family was already her, which even Steph was surprised to see since she thought the dinner was tomorrow. She introduced everyone to me and me to everyone. Her family was really into hockey, the World Juniors were on and they all invited us to sit and watch them. I got the whole other side of the hockey world from a fans perspective, which I remember from when I used to watch it was my dad but this brought back memories.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steph's POV
''Steph!'' Mom yelled from the top of the stairs,
''Yes'' I said, making my way up the stairs.
''Could you run to the store and get a few things I forgot.''
''Yeah, not a problem.'' I walked back downstairs and grabbed Sid's attention.
''I'm just running to the store to pick a few things up, okay?''
''I'll come with you'' He said.
''It's fine, you don't have to''
''You're right, I don't. But I want to'' He smiled. With that we took my mom's car and went to the grocery store across town. As we got into the store we walked over to the isle where the gravy mix was. As I turned around the corner I saw the one person I was hoping not to see. Nick.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nick's POV
''Dude isn't that Steph?'' Cody pointed towards someone at the other end of the isle.
''Yeah, man I haven't seen her forever''
''I told you, you guys were fait'' I started to walk towards her until I saw some else come around the corner and stand beside her, I couldn't make out who it was so I continued to walk in her direction. As she looked up and saw me, she grabbed a hole of the guys hand and pulled him closer. As we got closer I could make out the details on his face. Dark hair, a big ass nose and lips. He was wearing a Pittsburgh Penguins baseball hat. It couldn't be who I was thinking of, it was impossible.
''Hey Steph', Cody said stopping her.
''Hi, Cody'' She said, ''Nick,'' She finished looking over in my direction.
''I'm Sidney'' Holy fuck, I thought to myself. How in the hell did she get with him?
''Nice to meet you man!'' Cody said extending a hand.
''Yeah. Nice to meet you.'' I stuttered, still having my eyes fixed on Steph. I missed her a lot and now that she was back in town for a few days, it was my chance to win her back. I wanted her back and this whiny bitch who thought he could play hockey wasn't going to stop me.
''Sid, let's go'' Steph exclaimed. With that she held tight on to his hand and continued through the store. I wasn't even close to being over her, I thought I was until I saw her at that moment. I would do anything to have her mine again. It wouldn't be easy, but it would happen.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steph's POV
''Who was that?'' Sid asked.
''Nick and Cody, uhh, their just old friends'' I stuttered.
''You okay?''
''Yeah, uhm I'm fine''
''Steph, you look like you just seen a ghost''
''I'm fine'' I protested again. Sid didn't know anything about Nick. I had never mentioned him to Sid, and I never planned on it and I still didn't, I just wanted to forget about what happened with Nick and I, and what had just happened in the store.

chapter three; breakfast with the new boy.

Steph's POV
I woke up in the morning. The cool breeze floating through the air gave me shivers. The sun was streaming in through the window and it smelled like winter. I rolled over and saw Sid still beside me, sound asleep. He seemed to be perfect, his dark brown hair, recently cut fit his face and those lips, god those lips, they were just... perfect. I had a quick shower then through on one of Sid's shirts that I fished out of his drawer and my pants. I brushed my hair quick and let it air dry as I made my way to the kitchen. His house was beautiful. He had just bought it and moved out of Mario's. It was put together, I'm guessing with the help of his mother. It had it's unique touch to it. I made it to the kitchen, which I was finding to be my favourite spot in the house. I grabbed eggs and bacon from the fridge and pulled down two pans from above the island in the center of the kitchen and began to make breakfast for Sid and I. As I put the eggs into the pan, I felt someone wrap their arms around my waist.
"Smells good" Sid said, kissing my cheek.
"All for me" I laughed. I turned around and pulled him closer to me, wrapping my arms around his neck.
"You can't eat all of this, can you?"
"No! Of course not," I giggled, "That's why you better be hungry" I replied, placing a kiss on his nose.
"Your friggin' right I'm hungry" Once breakfast was ready we grabbed our plates and took places at the table.
"Sid,?'' I began,
''Yes,'' He said, putting his eyes towards me.
''We haven't really known each other for long, but everything that's happened... does it mean we are together?'' I asked.
''If that's what you want. I really like you, Steph''
''I really like you too, and yes, that is what I want''
''Then that's how it will be'' He smiled.
I smiled back, ''It may be soon, but I have to go home for a few days, the day after tomorrow. Do you want to come with me? Family Christmas.''
''I'd love to, as long as we can be back on the 28th. My family is coming down then''
''We can do that'' I smiled. We finished our breakfast then we took a cab over to the restaurant we ate at last night and got Sid's car, he drove me back to my condo. Sid and I moved fast into a relationship, which may be a step for me since I haven't had a what could be good and strong relationship since I lived in Cobourg. His name was Nick and you could say he was my first love but I really didn't want to remember anything about it. When I moved to Pittsburgh I promised myself I would forget about him, which I did. I was with Sid now and I trusted in him that the same thing wouldn't happen as it did with Nick.

chapter two; first day on the job.

Steph's POV
The sun was streaming through my window. It was another crisp day in December. The city was beautiful with the snow laying across it. I got out of bed and took a 15 minute warm shower. I did my usual routine; make-up, brushing my teeth and having breakfast but I decided to curl my hair today instead of just throwing it up. It took about another to do that then I got dressed. I through on my favourite pair of jeans, a white tank top with a black cardigan over top of it. I slipped on my black uggs and drove over to the arena. I parked my car in the player filled parking lot and prepared myself for the first full day of work. There was a game tonight and I was going to be here all day with training and practicing, but I didn't mind, I was more then thrilled to have this job. I grabbed my purse and grabbed my pair of black stilettos for inside, even though I'd be mostly in bare-feet. I walked through the doors and headed to my office, but I was stopped at my door.
"Hello there," I was greeted by a medium height male, with dark brown hair and a little bit of scruff around his face.
"I'm Max Talbot. Uh, my back seems to be in aching pain, I was wondering if you could--"
"Max.. your only a superstar on the ice" It was Sid, my eyes fixed on him and he beamed his right back at me.
"Wow Sid, way to kill the mood" Max threw at him.
"What mood?" I laughed.
"Me-ow, you've got yourself an attitude.. I like it" Max smiled as he walked away.
"Sorry about him" Sid laughed.
"It's fine, he's quite the character."
I went back to my office, then went out an watched the boys practice. They didn't take them selves to seriously. They liked to have fun out there, but when game time came.. they were a whole new team. They were playing the New York Rangers, Geno scored the first two goals and got his hat trick in the third. Letang nailed Del Zotto into the boards, with him not returning which shot a spark threw the crowd and ignited them even more. The final score was 5-1 Pens, Talbot and Staal each with another goal on top of Geno's hatty. I went back into my office and gathered my things to head home.
"Steph?" I heard a knock on my door, it was Sid.
"Hey Sid, come in"
"I wanted to ask you something"
"Shoot"
"Do you want to go out to dinner with me tomorrow, after practice.. it's gonna run late."
"I'd love to," I smiled.
"Great! So I'll just pick you up before practice so then we only have one car to deal with this time." He joked.
"Sounds good, I'll see you tomorrow." With that I grabbed my purse and handed Sid a piece of paper with my address on it, then Sid stopped me before I could leave out the door and pulled me into a hug. It was unexpected but I took it. He was freshly showered so his skin was warm and he smelled like American Eagle cologne. We both pulled back, I looked up at him and smiled.
"See you tomorrow" He said and with that I went home.
________________________________________________
Sid's POV
It was practice day today, the last one before the Christmas break. I wasn't really sure why coach wanted a practice when there wasn't going to be a game until after holidays but who knows with him. I showered then got dressed and headed over to Steph's apartment. I was more than excited to see her, the guys didn't know about my little crush on her -well it wasn't so little- I wasn't sure how her and I could have a relationship with us both being involved with the team, but I was willing to put everything into if it turned out to be one. I pulled up outside the front doors of her condo and there she was, with that curly hair, waiting by the doors.
"Hey" she smiled, as I stepped out of the car.
"Hey, ready to go?" I asked, opening the door.
"Always" her eyes met, god she was pretty.
I closed the door and drove us down the arena. We did our usually routines, she got her stuff organized in her office, I got dressed into my gear then she came and watched us practice. Practice ran until 7, Steph and I got our things together then headed out to the restaurant.
"You sure this place isn't too expensive, I mean--"
"It's fine, they have really good ribs" I winked.
"I'm guessing that what your going to have?" She asked.
"Hell ya"
We ordered our, I had the ribs and Steph ordered a peppercorn steak.
"Your the most clean rib eater I have ever met" She said.
"I'm really not, after a few beers it gets pretty messy."
"Oh really?" She laughed.
"Waiter.." I yelled, "Two beers, Canadian."
We sat at our table taking back beer after beer when finally Steph called it quits. We called a cab and laughed the whole way home.
"Are you coming?" I asked reaching my hand towards her while stepping out of the cab.
"I have to go home.."
"Stay here for the night."
"If you insist." She took my hand and I paid for the fare. I lead her upstairs, and gave her a Reebok t-shirt to wear to bed. She sat down on my bed while I went to the bathroom to change. I sat down beside her, she had her hair up in a ponytail by now but it was still really curly.
"I had a really nice time tonight, Sid" she smiled. I didn't say a word, I leaned in a kissed her. My hand gripped the side of her face and she rested hers on my leg. I didn't want the kiss to end, but it did. "Goodnight, Sid" Steph said smiling, then kissed me again. We both slid into bed and went to sleep. It was a good night.

chapter one; pittsburgh.

December 15, 2009.

Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. My new home. It was all turning out to be like a dream. I had just graduated college, with my bachelor's degree in athletic therapy. I was moving 5 hours away from my home town Cobourg to the city of Pittsburgh, PA. I love Canada, but I needed to get away from living my old life and everything I went through and just needed a fresh start. I moved into my condo about a week ago, it couldn't have been a better place to live either. It had the view of the three rivers, the Mellon Arena and where the new Consol Energy Center will be and pretty much all of downtown Pittsburgh. It was simply beautiful and right now I couldn't ask for anything better.
I was a die hard hockey fan for the Pittsburgh Penguins (which was another plus of the city) but because my parents strived to push me so hard for my life and career I barely got to watch the regular season games, but I ALWAYS made time for playoff season. I new all about the team, my Dad had me watching hockey since I could remember, too bad my Mom thought it was too dangerous for me to play. Sidney Crosby was my favourite player, which I often got criticized about but that didn't change anything. He was the face of the NHL, he had got his well deserved Stanley Cup and this year he was working towards a gold medal and another cup. Another plus was I had just been hired to work with the Penguins as their new athletic therapist, which was mainly why I was moving to Pittsburgh, but I probably would have anyways.
It was two days until I started my training with the team. They had an off-day today so I decided to drive down to the Arena and check it out. I drove down to the arena, parked my car where the players and staff did, grabbed my stuff and walked inside. It was neat to see the "behind the scenes" of a hockey arena, it was more classy then I had thought it to be. My office was across from the locker room which could turned out to have one advantage... since I had always loved the smell of hockey, I know, weird.. but hey I couldn't help myself!
By the time I was finished organizing my office 2 hours had flown by. I took a step back to look around and make sure everything was in place... for the 3rd time and it was. So I went out into the hallway and made my way to the benches. I stepped up on the platform and took a seat on the home teams bench. I tried to make out a game in my head from the players view, which didn't really work out to well, but I would see it soon because I would be right behind them watching every move of every shift. It was like getting season tickets for free. Behind me I could hear a door open then close. I jumped off the bench and went back down the hallway to come face to face with Sidney Crosby. My hockey idol. He was standing right in front of me, well he ran into me, but same thing right?
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" he said, dropping the bag of pucks.
"No no, my bad! It's OK." I replied not taking my eyes off him.
"I'm Stephanie.."
He looked up and his deep green eyes met mine.
"I'm Sidney." he whispered.
"Nice to meet you, but why are you whispering?" I laughed.
"Oh sorry, I just... how did you get in here?" he slurred.
"I'm the new athletic therapist for the team."
"So we'll be seeing lots of each other?"
"Yes we will." I smiled, I wasn't sure if he meant that in a good or bad way..
"Great!" he smiled.
Obviously he meant it in a good way.
"Let me help you pick those up."
"It's ok, really I can get them."
We both reached down to pick up one puck at a time to put it back in the bag, ironically we both reached for the same one. His hand brushed off mine.
"Sorry." we both said and pulled away.
"Do you want to join me?"
"Join you for what?" I asked.
"Well I was going to just play around on the ice, want to join me for a skate?"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I couldn't be more sure!"
"Sounds great, I have my skates in my car. Let me go get them.."
"I'll come with you!"
"But you have your skates on?"
"I can take them off you know" he laughed. "You really ask a lot of questions don't you?"
"Sorry, and if you want you can come with me I guess" I joked.
Sid took of his skates. Something was wrong with me, I didn't know how to react to half the things he said. I never, ever asked questions. It was different. But the feeling was good, it felt like everything was naturally between us, like we had know each other for years.
We walked out to my car, a grey Range Rover. Turned out Sid had the same one.
"That's my car" he called out, laughing.
Seeing as how he had parked two spots away from me, I obviously got the cars mixed up. Thank god he stopped me. I fixed myself to walk over to my car, when he called out again..
"Wait, that's my car too!"
"Very funny Sid!" I laughed.
Turns out he was right. I tried to unlock it multiple times and it wouldn't open. He decided to be mister funny I guess and play some tricks on me. I loved it, he was a character and my guess was not many people got to see this side of him with all the cameras around. I felt lucky.
We walked back inside, tied up our skates and went onto the ice. Sid gave me one of Jordan Staal's unused sticks to use while we played one-on-one and just shot at the empty net. As we were about to get off, he challenged me.
"Let's have a raced, from this end and back."
"Bring it on."
Sid took the lead which was good. I took my time and passed half way to the end of the rink, and took the win.
"Never thought I would see that one coming." he said, out of breath.
"My parents had me in power skating when I was younger." I laughed.
"How are you not out of breath after that."
"Tough girl" I smiled. What he didn't know was that I was probably more out of breath then he could even imagine.
We unlaced our skates on the home team's bench. It smelled like hockey, just the way I liked it. Sid gave me a funny look...
"Sorry about the smell, looks like your going to have to get used to it eh?!"
"Oh it's not big deal, I actually don't mind it. I've grown to like it"
"Your the first girl I've heard say that. I like it."
I jumped off the bench, ready to leave when Sid yelled my name.
"Steph.. umm, I was wondering if you want to go somewhere, for lunch maybe?"
"Sure, I'd like that"
"Sounds great, I'll take a quick shower and then we can head out!" He turned quick, then looked back and smiled. While Sid was in the showers, I walked back out to the arena's seating arena, picked a spot at center ice and just sat there.
"It's hard to imagine this place is like a circus by 7, eh." Sid was standing at bottom of the bench with a towel wrapped around him.
"Uhh" I squealed, then coughed.
Sid smiled, he was doing this on purpose.
"Yeah, it's weird seeing it so calm and empty"
"Why don't you come check out the locker room, while I change?"
I followed Sid into the locker room. It looked like a home away from home for the team. In one room there was vending machines, a frig filled with gatorade, leather coaches and a flat screen tv. There were hallways leading to the staff rooms and the showers. Sid walked around the corner and tapped me on the shoulder.
"Ready to go?" he asked. He was wearing a grey sweater with blue jeans and black shoes.
"Let's go!"
We took his car and drove downtown, this time he didn't play any car tricks on me.
"Where do you want to go?" he looked at me as he asked this, all he did was sparkle.
"I just moved here not long ago, so I don't really know the downtown area yet."
"Well in that case, after lunch I'll show you around?"
"Sure, that sounds great!"
Sidney took me the this little bistro downtown. It was really nice, we carried on a long conversation, mostly about hockey (not a surprise) and just got to know each other a little bit more. After he showed me around town, which was a blast. I picked up some little things for my condo. Before I knew it, it was 5:00pm, Sid dropped me back off at the arena to get my car.
"I had fun today," I smiled.
"Me to, do you think we could do it again?" He asked.
"I'd love that,"
"I guess this is part where I take you number," He blushed. I gave him my number and we each said goodbye. I jumped in my car and headed home. This was a good way to start off my new life.
